Planning the Evaluation
Planning the Evaluation
This element is important and is worth 20% of the
coursework grade. The
evaluation needs to address the following questions:
·
In what ways does your media product use,
develop or challenge forms and conventions of real media products?
Include a lot of DETAIL! In what ways does your media
product (magazine) use (conventions), develop or challenge forms and
conventions of real magazines. How does it use, follow, and develop the forms
and conventions. Think and compare to
the case studies and also real media products you have researched. Include the
conventions of the DPS, contents page and the front cover. For the front cover,
talk about how bold the masthead was, cover star, main image, barcode, price,
and website, main cover lines etc. the typical things /what you would expect.
The contents page conventions = listing of stories, page numbers, images,
colours and the layout. Mention about what genre you chose, the props used, the
clothes – this should link to your research (case studies). Have you linked
your DPS with your front cover? Include media terminology.
·
How does your media product represent
particular social groups?
Social groups: Target audience/demographics (age, gender,
ethnicity, social class) Psychographic: hobbies, interest and background
RELEVANT AS IT LINKS TO GENRE. How does your magazine represent, as in show,
portray, particular social groups? Talk
about how the models, language, cover lines, colors, price ETC. used target
your audience. (If you have used twitter, Instagram, Facebook in your magazine,
this will target the younger audience as they use it more than older people).
·
What kind of media institution might
distribute your media product and why?
Here you need to refer
back to Task 5 and your proposal, in which you stated your
intended publisher. How does the branding of the magazine link to the
organisation? How is it different from
their existing magazines? Also how might the magazine be distributed
electronically, via websites, ezines, apps or other electronic brand extension?
·
Who would be the audience for your media
product?
Target audience. Create an audience profile, or a typical
reader. Or create a media kit for your magazine. Something which says the
audience. It’s demographic – age, gender etc. Also include interests, hobbies,
where they shop e.g. typical reader would… Just include background information.
Basically, just define who your audience is. Could include pictures. Include
music taste, and locations, (urban magazine, in London?)
·
How did you attract/address your audience?
Use feedback from your classmate as they are your target
audience. Either comment on blog or discuss and ask for their opinions. Show
class and friends. Have you specifically attracted your audience? Is this the
type of audience you wanted? (Mention about the colours, costumes, props,
language – informal/formal). Could include quotes of your feedback. The
language you used is important as it lets the audience understand who the
targeted audience is. You could have attracted the audience by layout, the way
you specifically displayed your things.
·
What have you learnt about technologies from
the process of constructing this product?
What technology did you use? The camera, the lighting etc.
Photoshop, InDesign, ILLUSTRATOR etc. Blog, youtube, timetoast, prezi,
slideshare. What have you learnt, include examples and use terminology.
EXPLAIN. The more you write, the more you show your development.
·
Looking back at your preliminary task, what do
you feel you have learnt in the progression from it to the full product?
Could
refer back on the college magazine feedback, what did you improve on, what did
you learn? (Talk about the goals you set) and has it affected the way you
produced your music magazine? Refer back to the magazine itself (Task3) as well
as the evaluation you wrote (Task4).
Have you addressed the action points?
The
work you have done on the previous tasks should help you to write this
evaluation script. You may NOT simply write an essay for
this. The exam board specifies that you must use digital technology creatively to present the
evaluation. You need to
use at least three creative
media technologies in your answers to the seven questions. These include: prezi, podcasts, slideshare,
infogram, flickr, videos with interviews / vox pops, bounceapp, mindmeister,
scribd, vlogs, editing software. But be creative- find your own! Draft your answers.
Produce a proposal to show which technologies you will use to answer
each question, and why.
